Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong, is one of the largest and most prosperous city in southern China. The city is also China's main industrial centers, covering an area of 7,434 square kilometers, and with a population of over 6 million. Guangzhou is one of the 24 cities which are the first to have been announced as famous cities of historic and cultural interest in China. The history of 2,200 years has left behind many places of historic interest and scenic beauty. They are vivid witness of past brilliance of Guangzhou.
Guangzhou's industry covers machinery, shipbuilding, textiles, sugar-refinery, household electrical appliances, computers, petrochemicals, light industrial products for daily use, rubber products and garments. The Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone situated in Huangpu has already taken shape. Guangzhou has advanced agriculture, abounding in rice, sugarcanes, fruits, freshwater fish and oil crops.
Weather
Guangzhou is located in China's subtropical area with an all-year pleasant climate. Guangzhou's spring is humid and rainy; summer is a little hot with occasional typhoons. Temperature in autumn is very moderate, cool and windy. The good weather of autumn often lasts to November and December; the period from October to December is the best travel time. Winter is a little chilly but short. Sweaters are sufficient.
Urban Transportation
> Public Bus There is developed and busy buses transportation system in Guangzhou. Price ranges from 3 yuan to 5 yuan depending on the bus conditions. Public bus perhaps is the cheapest way to get around the city. Be forewarned though, buses in Guangzhou is also very crowded because of the city's huge population. > Taxi At present, Guangzhou has about 16,000 taxies but demand is also huge particularly during peak hours from 8 am to 9 am and at lunch and dinner. Taxies follow the principles of "marked prices". The starting fare is 7 yuan for the first 2.3 kilometers, and it is 2.2 or 2.6 every kilometer after that. > Subway The subway system is comprised of Lines 1, 2, 3, 4 (partially), covering most of the major destinations in Guangzhou. Subways run from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Fares range from 2 yuan (a couple of stations) to 12 yuan (the longest journeys).

Guangzhou holds the famous and world's biggest trade fair every year - Guangzhou Canton Fair Trade Show which attracts thousands of businessmen and traders around the world to attend the show.
