Eid Celebrations in China-2009

eidmubarak.jpg Only hearing the word “Eid” makes our heart swing. When we ourselves begin to lose our self in the nothingness of this busy world, when our soul implores a space for itself, then the advent of eid is just like rain after a chronic drought.

Holy Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated all across China on Monday (21-9-2009). On this occasion the Bangladesh Embassy in China held an eid party where all Bangladeshis in china were invited. Following the eid prayers all Bangladeshis, wearing traditional outfits, headed towards the embassy. The whole embassy was full of the joys of spring as Eid has the panacean power of freeing our heart and soul from the shackle of ennui.

Amidst this festive environment, all Bangladeshis were found embracing each other (forgetting everything, even swine flu!) and exchanging eid greetings with the joyfulness that was evident in their eyes. All of them had opted for a short reprieve to this party as for them an occasion like eid works like a catalyst to enliven them. Here comes an inevitable part of eid that is food. In fact food and eid are complement to each other. Starting from polau, chicken, beef, chotpoti and shemai, payesh at the end as dessert, there were many kinds of items in the party that we expect to eat at home on eid day.

Overall, this was a day that will have an enduring effect in our memory, not only for foods of assorted flavors but for the chance to get the very essence of holy eid, one that we all used to have in our home.
